Course 148:
Succeeding in the Virtual Work Environment

(2 days)

Course Description

In this day of Internet communication, off-shore development, and highly mobile workers, organizing and managing organizations and teams is difficult at best. Keeping the focus on an organization’s objectives and delivering products on time, on budget, and maintaining quality can be a challenge. Managers can no longer expect organizations to be co-located and can no longer depend on daily face-to-face interaction. Success demands new approaches to building and maintaining cohesion across multiple organizations, multiple geographically dispersed locations, and different time zones, languages, and even cultures. This course will teach attendees how to develop, lead, and perform as a member of an effective virtual team.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Manage and lead individuals, teams, and organizations operating in the virtual work environment
  • Develop communications patterns and styles that foster individual and collaborative accountability
  • Create effective virtual project teams composed of individuals from multiple cultural and organizational settings and a variety of technical backgrounds
  • Organize work flow to maximize the advantages and minimize the disadvantages of the distributed setting
  • Identify effective motivational factors for remote workers
  • Use technology to enhance collaboration, communication, and control
  • Address the unique challenges of the virtual team and the distributed setting

Who Should Attend
