Advanced Project Management Simulation

(3 days)


Course Description

This on-the-job simulation course builds on the baseline Project Management Essentials course (#150). On the first morning, small teams of students will be “promoted” to the role of Senior Project Manager tasked with recovering a troubled organizational project. You will have a choice of either a technical or non‑technical project. Students will be presented with real-world situations and typical problems encountered in their everyday work environment.

After a review of fundamental project management skills, attendees will begin receiving reports and problems from the eight members of their new project team. The team will have been poorly led and has very low motivation. Participants will be expected to develop plans and strategies to address each problem simulated in class. Project managers will be tasked with creating a team development plan that addresses conflict, dysfunctional teams, and internal stakeholders. Finally, attendees will develop an advanced Risk Management plan and an effective plan to deal with Scope Creep.

Experience and training at the level equivalent to Course 150: Project Management Essentials or Course 309: Managing Software Development Projects are assumed.
